Microscope Exhibition

Welcome to the virtual overview of the microscope exhibition "unsichtbar-sichtbar-durchschaut" at the Campus Berlin-Buch. We present a selection of seven of the more than 150 microscopes on display here, produced in Berlin and Brandenburg.

1 Pistor large microscope

This large microscope by Carl Pistor is the oldest in the collection. It dates back to 1830.

2 Teschner Trichinosos microscope

Trichinosis microscopes were used to examine meat for parasites. This microscope from the manufacturer Teschner dates from 1900.

3 Hartnack research microscope

This large research microscope dates from about 1860. The manufacturer Edmund Hartnack became famous for his immersion objectives.

4 Wächter Salon microscope

Salon microscopes like this one by Paul Wächter from about 1900 were served for entertainment at salon evenings.

5 Schiek Travel microscope

Travel microscopes like this one by Friedrich Wilhelm Schiek from about 1840 were used for observing nature, a popular recreation at the time.

6 ROW drum microscope

Drum microscopes like this one from about 1960 were made in the GDR by Rathenower Optische Werke.

7 Steindorf binocular microscope

This microscope is the youngest of the collection. The Steindorff company produced in West Berlin until the 1970s.

In addition, scientists from the MDC illustrate the insights they have gained with state-of-the-art microscopic techniques by showing examples from their research.
